Moving InNov 5 2009 11:07PM
KXMBTV Bismarck In search for an answer people have been steered to North Dakota... (Donnell Preskey) There's no secret North Dakota has jobs... It's the bright spot in a nation where competition for any kind of job is tight Here's a story of one family who's moving in to the Peace Garden state as a way for them to Move on in life.. "movies take those upstairs for boys..." William and Brandy Dorsch are a long way from what they've called home for most of their lives... "Outerbanks, NC" Everything they own has been packed up and moved.. "Bismarck ND." All for a JOB.. "o what you have to do to take care of your family... you go where work is... got laid off." (Brandy) Outerbanks is a tourist area - when economy went down, a lot of jobs went down. I had a stable job, he didn't. Hard to find a stable job to support a job. Working anything and anything could find but when can't get McDonalds to hire you 40 hours a week it's time to look somewhere else It was an article like this that caught their attention.. (Brandy) "I noticed an article on MSNBC about lady moved from Ohio to ND for just a job. Didn'thave a house, she didn't have anything. But she had a job - and it was the first job she'd had in 18 months." They knew NOTHING about North Dakota... But they quickly learned there was work waiting.. (Brandy) Compared to where we are from there's a huge surplus of employment here. It's nice to be able to go down street and see now hiring signs cuz you don't see that. In our local newspaper three days before we left there were three posisitions open. William came here in August to start looking... He applied at 100 different places.. After ten days he landed a temporary job and just this week he started working for the Department of Corrections as a Prison Guard (william) Such a relief to have full time employment... especially one with benefits Now that they're here... They hope all that North Dakota has been built up to be is true... "ope neighborhoods are as friendly as I think they are... I'd like to eventually let kids walk to school. Where we were from i couldn't let kids play in yards for fear of being snatched." "we want to be able to live and not just survive is what it boils down to to have a better quality of life." So to move on they're moving in... "if anyone's looking... North Dakota."
