D-League draftNov 5 2009 11:07PM
KXMBTV Bismarck The Wizards had no one on the roster at the '4' position, so Curtis Withers has a shot at seeing a lot of playing time. He's six foot eight and can score, averaging 15 points per game in college at Charlotte. He's played overseas and also with the Orlando Magic's Summer League Team. Draft headquarters was at Stadium Sports Bar, and Rory White and company are thrilled with the selection of Wither's. "(Rory White:) He is a low post scorer and can play with his back to the basket and he's a big force inside. I think he can defend the four or the five spot and I think he is just going to be a beast inside for us, so we are looking forward to getting him in. " White compares him to Ben Wallace in the NBA. The rest of the Wizards selections look like this. Another Power Forward in the second round, Doug Thomas out of Iowa. In the sixth round, they picked up former LA D-Fenders guard Darren Cooper. Five forwards and three guards make up the 'elite eight.' Other notables includes former Wizard Carlos Powell going number one overall to Albuquerque. Perrin Johnson and Quemont Greer went in the sixth round, to Springfield and Austin respectively. If you're wondering, 'Too Tall' Tom Szymanski was not selected...maybe next year big guy?
