Friendly fire not ruled out...Pact falls apart...Pakistan shooting...Nov 6 2009 2:41AM
Associated Press FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) Officials have not ruled out the possibility that some casualties of the Fort Hood shooting incident may have been victims of "friendly fire." Officials say 12 people died and 31 were wounded when an Army psychiatrist set to be shipped overseas opened fire at the Texas post Thursday. Military officials are trying to unravel the why the shooting happened. The suspect is wounded and under guard. FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) A clergyman says there were bursts of gunshots and "people running everywhere" at Fort Hood, Texas where an Army psychiatrist is accused of a shooting rampage that left 12 people dead. The Rev. Greg Schannep says a man in uniform warned him that someone had opened fire. Schannep says he saw blood from a wound on the man who warned him, but the man survived. TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) A negotiator for ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya says a U.S.-brokered deal has failed after a deadline passed for forming a unity government. Victor Meza says the pact has fallen apart because Congress failed to vote on whether to reinstate Zelaya to office before the Thursday deadline. ISLAMABAD (AP) There's been another attack on Pakistani military personnel in the country's capital, the third in about two weeks. Gunmen on a motorcycle today wounded a senior army officer and a soldier in Islamabad. Militants are retaliating against a military offensive along the Afghan border. Washington (AP) President Barack Obama is paying his first visit tomorrow to Walter Reed Army Medical Center as commander in chief, at the expense of a trip to Capitol Hill to talk health care. The White House says the Walter Reed visit was planned before the Fort Hood shootings. Talks with lawmakers will take place tomorrow. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
