KXMBTV Bismarck But the subject of North Dakota native Cody Shimek's latest project hold a special place in his heart. Shimek put together a one hour Film on World War II veteran's from his hometown of Watford City. It's called Small Town Soldiers. Shimek says he's always been a history buff. He says when he was thirteen he and his father ran into a veteran at a local cafe. Shimek says with that chance encounter World Ward II became more that what he'd read about in history books. Cody:"When we walked in he said there's old Jim Taylor in the corner. So we had breakfast with Jim and Jim proceeded to tell me how he was on the USS Bunker Hill and it was komkazied and for me up to that point history was world War II documentaries on the History Channel didn't realize that someone from the Chuckwagon Cafe might have one of these amazing stories." Small Town Soldiers plays tomorrow at 2pm at the Confluence Center near Williston. You can see it in Bismarck at the Heritage Center Sunday at 2pm. The film is free and open to the public. Shimek says it's not set in stone...but he hopeful Small Town Soldiers will air on PBS in North Dakota next year.
