DSU women take the court

Its been a year with some high highs for Dickinson State sports.

Even this past weekend...the Football team clinched a share of the DAC Title and the women's Basketball team knocked off the nation's number one! But, since then, there has also been the lowest of lows with the recent deaths of three softball players.

Tonight, the first athletic activities were on campus since the tragedy.

Tia Streeter was there and has more.

" (TIA STREETER/ KX SPORTS) Shoes, ribbons, posters, and t-shirts, said what words couldn't, in a gym that was devoted to the Dickinson Three

(GUY FRIDLEY/ FORMER DSU SOFTBALL/BASKETBALL COACH) They would wants sports going right away the next day, they were both so competitive that we know that they're watching us right now and they're watching the team play and watching the University up above and it's just something that I think that everybody's just got to get back to some normalcy in their life and continue to grieve and remember those three kids

(TIA STREETER/ KX SPORTS) Sports were important in the lives of Afton, Kyrstin and Ashley, and it's sports that will try to bridge the gap between mourning and healing, as Blue Hawk athletics return to competitionin a year now devoted to their memory

(ROGER TERNES/ DSU ATHLETIC DIRECTOR) It has been amazing yesterday after the service and today, student athletes who I know by name and face only stopped by appreciated the service yesterday it gave them time to mourn and reflect on their classmates, teammates fellow Hawks and we won't be over this for a very long time but it'll be in our hearts and in our memories throughout the year and relly untill the softball season is over at the end of May." watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
