Here is the latest Montana news from The Associated Press...Nov 9 2009 2:41AM
Associated Press CRAIG, Mont. (AP) A small plane that made an emergency landing on Interstate 15 north of Craig over the weekend used that same roadway to take off again. The state patrol closed part of the highway Saturday to allow Clancy pilot Bill Burkland to use it to get his Cessna Skyhawk 2 airborne. Burkland had landed on I-15 on Friday night after the plane ran out of fuel. KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) School District No. 5 officials are considering their next step after voters rejected a request for a $4.1 million high school building reserve levy. The district didn't advertise before the election because such a request had never before failed. Kalispell Superintendent Darlene Schottle says the failure could be at least partly due to a tough economy. FORT PECK, Mont. (AP) Authorities say most of the 30 swift foxes transplanted late last month to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation have stayed in the area. A wildlife technician says some of them have moved farther east into the northeastern Montana reservation. Biologists hope to boost fox numbers by linking its populations in Canada, South Dakota and Wyoming. BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) State and federal officials are considering ways to create fish passage at Cartersville Diversion Dam on the Yellowstone River near Forsyth to help pallid sturgeon, an endangered species. Officials say pallid sturgeon need more upstream access for the species to survive. When pallid sturgeon eggs hatch, the fish can drift some 300 miles downstream.
