Associated Press SIOUX FALLS SHOOTINGS 2 injured in Sioux Falls shootings SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) Sioux Falls police say a fight at a party led to a 35-year-old man being shot in the head. The man was taken to a hospital early Sunday with what was described as a non-life threatening injury. Police say another man at the scene was shot in the leg and fled before officers arrived. The 26-year-old man was later found and treated for a non-life threatening injury. Authorities say the shooter fled in a small red car with a shattered rear window. He is described as an American Indian in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. SIOUX EMPIRE FAIR SD fair seeks 5-year deal with county SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) The executive director of the Sioux Empire Fair wants to restore a five-year management agreement with Minnehaha County in the wake of an embezzlement case. The fair association's former office manager, Kathy Gourley, pleaded guilty in May to stealing more than $600,000. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The management agreement with the county was reduced to a one-year contract in May as the case unfolded. The County Commission has been looking into the idea of selling the fairgrounds. The fair's executive director, Trygve Fredrickson, says the fair association wants to reach a long-term management deal with the county as soon as possible. (AP) Developers in Sioux Falls are questioning a proposal that would enable the town of Harrisburg to connect to the city's new east-side sanitary sewer system. They're questioning whether the fees Harrisburg would pay are fair, and they're asking the Sioux Falls City Council to delay a vote on the matter until it has more time to study the issue. The $40 million sewer system has opened up more than 8,000 acres to development. Companies building in the area are paying about $5,000 per acre to hook up to the system as the city tries to recover its construction costs. Developers then pass on the costs to residents and businesses that move into the area. Developer Steve Van Buskirk says Sioux Falls residents might end up subsidizing a sewer system for Harrisburg. Sioux Falls Public Works Director Mark Cotter says Harrisburg would access the system at off-peak hours, and the fee could be adjusted each year. He also says the agreement is temporary until a new regional wastewater treatment facility is built, perhaps within 10 years. (AP) Records in the South Dakota secretary of state's office indicate a new general partner has been listed for Northern Beef Packers, which is building a beef processing plant in Aberdeen. Oshik Song replaces Dennis Hellwig, who had been the project's largest investor. Hellwig said he had no comment. Original plans called for construction to start in fall 2006 with a potential opening the next spring. But there have been numerous delays, and no one would speculate on an opening date. In the past, supporters have said Northern Beef Packers could process 1,500 head of cattle a day and employ about 600 workers. Officials in Brown County say the plant owes $128,140 in 2008 property taxes and 24 mechanic's liens totaling more than $15 million have been filed against the plant.
