Drunk Driving Deaths Come Alive In RugbyNov 10 2009 9:42PM
KXMCTV Minot The students at Rugby High School certainly know that and for that they can thank the Student Council. Last week that group held something called 'Day of the Dead'. It was an eye-opening example of how deadly the combination of alcohol and the road can be. Perry Olson has the story. Kayla Voeller's life is over... (Kayla Voeller - Rugby 8th Grader) "Dead." Dead...because she was drinking and driving...leading to a meeting with... (Jordan McGath - Rugby HS Senior) "The Grim Reeper..." Portrayed today by Jordan McGath. (walking) This of course is all fake thank goodness but the message being sent is not. (Michelle Lind - Student Council Advisor) "It is a real visual for them. When they have a student in their class who has been chosen by the Grim Reeper, we ask them not to interact and make it like they really were a victim." Because after you die you can't joke with friends. Every 12 minutes The Grim Reeper claims another student. Making that long walk alone...then "The Grim Reeper has taken eight of our students..." Back after another fatality. This 'Day of the Dead' in Rugby is really sending a message. (Jordan McGath - Rugby HS Senior) "I think it is important because why would waste your life that young on something so silly." (Michelle Lind - Student Council Advisor) "I think everything we do is going to make a difference for our students. They are faced with tough decisions in their lives and if this is something they remember down the road it will be positive for them." (Kayla Voeller - Rugby 8th Grader) "I think it is more appealing to them if they see it then hear it." It was easy to see Friday...The Grim Reeper ending lives...and hopefully getting kids thinking. Perry Olson, KX News. At the end day 32 students had been snatched by the Grim Reeper at Rugby High.
