Trial set in PoteraHaskins lawsuit against MSUNov 11 2009 6:46AM
Associated Press BUTTE, Mont. (AP) A federal judge has set an April trial date in a sexual discrimination lawsuit former Montana State women's Basketball coach Robin Potera-Haskins filed after she was fired. U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon scheduled the three-day bench trial to start on April 14 in Butte after he rejected Montana State's request to issue a summary judgment earlier this month. Montana State had argued in its motion that there was no further remedy for Potera-Haskins under the discrimination claim because she could not be rehired as coach and the court has ruled that she is not entitled to any compensatory damages. Potera-Haskins, who coached the Bobcats from 2001-04, filed the lawsuit in 2005. The sexual discrimination claim argues that she was fired because she complained that the women's basketball program was not treated equally to the men's in the areas of salaries, other funding and facilities. The university said she was fired for poor performance and mistreatment of athletes. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 11-11-09 0630CST |
