GM-MONTANA Livingston GMC dealer closes doors LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) Headwaters GMC in Livingston closed its doors this week after decades of selling General Motors cars in the community.

Headwaters owner Dave Jackson says the business is finalizing some work, but is no longer open.

Headwaters received a letter this past summer from General Motors Co. telling the business that its contract with GM will be discontinued after Dec. 31.

A sign on the door at the Livingston store said sales were still available at the operation's Belgrade location.

(AP) Donations have been pouring in from people who want to help find the shooter who killed a mammoth grizzly bear and left the carcass to rot.

State and federal wildlife officials increased the reward to about $11,800. They want to find the poacher responsible for the death of the grizzly known as Maximus.

A game warden with the state Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks says he has seen an alarming number of poaching cases where the shooter doesn't even take anything as a trophy.

Game warden captain Mike Martin says it's sad to see people just thrill killing the state's biggest and best wildlife.

The Gallatin County Commission approved the new ordinance Tuesday, after first rejecting it in September. It bans the billboards on the Highway 191 in the canyon leading to Big Sky.

The action follows the placement of a large billboard on the highway.

The ordinance gives that company 10 years to remove the billboard. The first rejected draft of the ordinance only allowed three years, and commissioners worried that wasn't enough time for the company to recoup its investment.

Supporters of the ban say it is approved by most residents in the area.

Utah-based Saunders Outdoor Advertising says the new ban violates its property rights.

A final vote on the ban comes next month.

Police say one person from the vehicle, a male, was taken to the emergency room. It was unknown whether he was the driver. Witnesses reported seeing three people running from the scene.

Resident Mike MacKenzie says the only thing that saved him was that he was in another room sleeping.

The crash left a huge hole in the wall, and the front of the home appeared to be collapsing.

Police say the vehicle lost control about a half block away, hit a fire hydrant and crashed into the living room.

Commissioners voted on the move Tuesday night.

County Attorney Eileen Joyce says that a department within the local government requested the review. Commissioners are then required by law to grant the state authority to work as a special prosecutor on behalf of the local government.

The subject of the investigation, completed by the Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, has not been released. No one has been arrested yet.

But Joyce says charges could come this week.

Information from: The Montana Standard, http://www.mtstandard.com PENSION SHORTFALL Investments alone likely won't save pension system HELENA, Mont. (AP) The state's investment director says it is not likely that higher returns alone are enough to save the state's beleaguered pension system.

Board of Investments executive director Carroll South says the pensions would need to earn a return that is far above historical levels in order to fully recover losses.

Pension investments lost nearly 21 percent of their value last year.

South says that the teachers' pension system would need to earn nearly 12 percent on investments over the next 10 years in order to recover and meet ongoing obligations.

South says that is unlikely, but not impossible. He says a good investment year this year will help a lot.
