Veterans Day Ceremony HeldNov 11 2009 7:22PM
KXMCTV Minot The day has become known as Veterans Day and today, hundreds of people turned out to celebrate the service of all those who've served the nation in the military. A favorite part of today's program was the musical tribute to various branches of the military with Minot's Magic City Campus Band. (music) (Ray Bushnell, Army Veteran) "I was in the Army. I went in with the Oregon National Guard in 1940. I went overseas in 1942 and came back in 1945 after being wounded." (music) (Elmer Bjertness, Marine Veteran) "I am a Marine. I was in the Black Sheep Squadron. I was aboard a carrier and we had Corsairs. Our job after the war was the patrol the western US looking for Japanese subs which were plentiful at that time." (music) (Bill Larson, Navy Veteran) "I was in the Navy Seabees. Started out in Farragut, Idaho and went to Hawaii and to Iwo Jima." (Merlin Indergaard, Navy Veteran) "US Navy. World War Two. All over the Pacific including Shanghi, China." (music) (Jim Boley, Air Force Veteran) "I was Air Force in Korea and Vietnam, both wars, and was there for 20 years. I had some friends who didn't make it back and it's an emotional day in some ways." (Important for people to remember?) "It is." Armistice Day was first celebrated in 1919 and became Veterans Day 1954.
