Accused terror plotters to NY...Pleas in balloon case...Stocks...Nov 13 2009 3:52PM
Associated Press Washington (AP) Attorney General Eric Holder says suspected 9/11 plotters should be tried where the crimes took place. He says Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (HAH'-leed shayk moh-HAH'-med) who has described himself as the mastermind of the terror attack will be brought from Guantanamo Bay to New York along with four others, to face a trial in a federal civilian court just blocks from ground zero. WASHINGTON (AP) Although the Justice Department says federal courts are equipped to try the 9/11 suspects, that's not the view of former attorney general Michael Mukasey (myoo-KAY'-zee). He served in the Bush administration, and earlier as a federal judge in New York. And Republican Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona says a trial could cause valuable information to be made available to al-Qaida. FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) Hospital officials won't confirm it but the lawyer for the Fort Hood shooting suspect says Maj. Nidal Hasan (nih-DAHL' hah-SAHN') has told him that he may be paralyzed from the waist down. Hasan, who was charged yesterday with 13 counts of premeditated murder, was shot multiple times by police during the attack last week. FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) Nearly a month after a Colorado couple falsely reported that their six-year-old son had floated away in a runaway balloon, they've pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the hoax. Prosecutors want the couple to spend some time in jail. A sentencing hearing is set for next month. NEW YORK (AP) One day after a big drop on Wall Street, investors have been drawn back in by some encouraging earnings reports. The Dow gained 73 points today in light trading. For the week, the major indexes are up more than 2 percent. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 11-13-09 1544CST |
