Man gets 7 years for burglary, other chargesNov 14 2009 8:19PM
Associated Press Grand Forks, N.D. (AP) An eastern North Dakota man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a string of burglaries, terrorizing and other charges. Steven Svir of Arvilla had pleaded guilty to burglary, theft of property, preventing arrest, harboring a runaway minor, unlawful entry to a motor vehicle, underage drinking, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, aggravated assault and terrorizing. He was sentenced Friday. Court records say the assault and terrorizing charges stem from an attack on Svir's ex-girlfriend. The 18-year-old Svir was accused of cutting her on the neck and chest with a knife in March. He was arrested in April after a three-hour standoff that began with an attempt to burglarize an East Grand Forks, Minn., home. Svir was ordered to repay about $15,000 to the victims.
