Meyer/Stanch win Super Vee Unlimited at Key WestNov 15 2009 6:06PM
Associated Press AP Photo FLAN101, FLAN108, FLAN106 KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) Peter Meyer and Johnny Stanch have won a second consecutive Super Vee Unlimited class title at the Key West World Championship offshore powerboat races. Meyer, of Port Washington, N.Y., and Stanch, of Camden, N.J., piloted Seminole Hard Rock at an average speed of 92.38 mph during the final of three races Sunday. The duo also won their class during races on Wednesday and Friday. Stanch says it was "killing" Meyer to hold back and not to turn on the speed. Meyer also won a national title this year and in 2008. Miss Geico, driven by Marc Granet, of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., and Scott Begovich of Jupiter, Fla., easily won the Turbine class. Piloting Spirit of Qatar, Sheik Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani of Qatar and throttleman Steve Curtis, of Southhampton, England, were crowned world champions in the Superboat 850 Extreme class.
