Dollars Spent on Political Ads

It seems like they come one after another...

Ads put together by a national organizations telling you how to feel about a particular issue.

So how much are organizations willing to spend to sway your vote? Brad Feldman looks into the issue.

(Sound- commercials) Cap and Trade..

(Sound - commercials) To Healthcare Reform

The two issues at the center of a national debate

So it comes as no surprise ads on both sides of the issues are flooding the airwaves

Wayne Kranzler owns Kranzler Kingsley...an ad agency in Bismarck

(Wayne Kranzler/ Kranzler Kingsley) "It seems that the national situation where everyone is kind of polarized on these issues has driven this kind of spending. It's unprecedented." Kranzler has been tracking the amount of money spent on the issues in the state since February

So far forty-one agancies have bought air time..

From February through September...about one million dollars in advertising had been sold..

In the last couple of months...this number has doubled..

More than three million dollars in ad space has been sold to national organizations trying to get their message out to the voters.

To make a comparrison...we look at the previous election cycle of 2008

(Wayne Kranzler/ Kranzler Kingsley) "The last election we had a governors race, we had a congressional race we had some measures that money was spent on a high profile insurance commissioner race. But I dont think all of those races combined spent three millions dollars last fall." But is the increasing number of ads voters see making a difference? (Person 1) "No it doesn't change my opinion one bit. I have already made up my opinion on that." (Person 2) "It is just somebody's opinion." (Person 3) "I get real confused..one is this way and one is the other way." (Person 4) "I think the two sides need to get together and come to a decision instead of argue about it." (Wayne Kranzler/ Kranzler Kingsley) "I dont see this stopping anytime soon..but even if there is some resolution to the Healthcare Bill I think Climate will come back...cap and trade." Leaving you with little choice...watch the ads..because turning the channel will likley mean more off the same..
