Rodriguez Sentenced To Die

He was found guilty of killing Dru Sjodin and now the same jury has sentenced Alfonso Rodrguez Junior to death for his crime.

Dru's Mother, Linda Walker, says it wasn't an easy decision for the jurors but justice was served tody.

Mike Morken of KX-4 News in Fargo has more.

Linda Walker: "I know it wasn't an easy decision for the jurors, but Dru's voice was heard today.

Mike Morken: Linda Walker spoke with reporters after jurors handed down the death sentence for the man responsible for her daughter's death. The decision was made by the same federal jury that convicted Rodriguez last month.

Rodriguez looked straight ahead and showed no emotion as the sentence was announced. His mother and sister cried, as did a number of the jurors.

Defense attorney: Mike Morken: the University of North Dakota student from Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, disappeared from a Grand Forks shopping mall parking lot in November 2003.

Her body was found the following April in a ravine near Crookston, in northwestern Minnesota.

Richard Ney says he will file paperwork to seek a new trial, and if that fails, he will appeal the sentence. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list

Posted by Karen on Sep 26 2006 7:08PM - The sentence he's received is far more humane than the one he gave his victim, family, and friends.

Posted by trisha on Sep 27 2006 2:26AM - Does anybody know where he will be executed? I would like to send a few bucks to pay for the needle used to put him to death. And I better not hear about how lethal injection is cruel or painful. How about what happened to Dru? Great job, jury, for doing the right thing.

Posted by Jen on Sep 28 2006 4:48PM - He'll probably die of old age before we execute him. Wouldn't it be nice to treat him with the same respect he treated Dru? Torture him and leave him to die a slow death exposed to our good old ND winters? What a freak. He looks like he could hardly organize a trip to the bathroom - must be the face he puts on after he gets caught.
