FORT BENTON, Mont. (AP) Chouteau County authorities say a woman was killed and a man severely injured in an apparent murder-attempted suicide in Fort Benton.

The shooting was reported at about 5 p.m. Thursday.

County Attorney Steve Gannon says the suspected shooter was taken to a Seattle hospital for treatment and there is no danger to the public. The woman's body was to be taken to the state crime lab in Missoula for autopsy.

Gannon says the names of those involved are being withheld until identities are confirmed and family members are notified.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting Fort Benton Police and the Chouteau County sheriff's office in the investigation.
