Mike Mottau and Zach Parise had the other New Jersey goals.

Parise extended his career-high point scoring streak to 10 games.

The Devils extended their home-ice winning streak to six.

Brodeur was back in net one day after setting a record for minutes played by a goaltender.

Richard Park scored the Islanders goal, beating Brodeur with a shot from above the right circle at 11:18.

Sabres 5, Hurricanes 1.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Ryan Miller made 30 saves, and the Buffalo Sabres scored five goals in the third period to keep the Carolina Hurricanes winless on the road with a 5-1 victory.

Up by a goal after 40 minutes, the Hurricanes were unable to preserve a third-period lead for the second straight night. Atlanta erased a three-goal deficit Friday by scoring five goals in the final frame against Carolina in a 6-4 win.

Thomas Vanek, Derek Roy and Jochen Hecht had a goal and assist each, and Mike Grier and Clarke MacArthur also scored for the Sabres (14-7-2), who won their second straight.

Matt Cullen scored, and Michael Leighton made 19 saves for the lethargic Hurricanes (5-16-5), who remain the NHL's lone team without a win away from home (0-10-3).

Thrashers 1, Flyers 0.

ATLANTA (AP) Johan Hedberg made 34 saves for his first shutout in two years the Atlanta Thrashers stopped a 14-game losing streak against the Philadelphia Flyers, 1-0.

Rich Peverley scored his 10th goal, his sixth on the power play, midway through the second and helped the Thrashers overcome a sluggish third period.

Ending what was the NHL's longest current losing streak against one opponent, the Thrashers won their third straight overall. They have just 12 points at Philips Arena, however, after starting the game with the league's third-fewest points total at home.

Philadelphia has lost two straight and five of six. The Flyers hadn't lost to Atlanta since Nov. 18, 2005.

While his teammates managed only 17 shots on goal, including just three in the third, Hedberg stopped 13 shots in the final 20 minutes for his 12th career shutout.

Bruins 4, Senators 3, SO.

BOSTON (AP) Michael Ryder scored the lone goal in the shootout, lifting the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Ottawa Senators.

It was the fifth win in six games and sixth straight over the past two seasons against Ottawa for the Bruins, who moved into first place in the Northeast Division after an injury-filled, sluggish start this season.

Ottawa's Milan Michalek forced overtime, scoring his second goal of the game with 19.3 seconds left and the goalie off for an extra attacker.

Ryder also had one of Boston's three power-play goals. Dennis Wideman and David Krejci had the other two for the Bruins, who overcame an early 2-0 deficit.

Capitals 4, Canadiens 3, SO.

MONTREAL (AP) Nicklas Backstrom scored the only shootout goal on Washington's third attempt to give the Capitals a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

Semyon Varlamov (sehm-YAHN' vahr-LAH'-mawv) stopped Montreal shooters Mike Cammalleri, Maxim Lapierre and Tomas Plekanec.

Backstrom secured the win when he put a shot past Carey Price, who had stopped Tomas Fleischmann and Alexander Ovechkin.

Eric Fehr (fair) scored his second goal of the game to draw Washington even at 3 with 11.4 seconds remaining in regulation.

Flames 4, Blue Jackets 3. SO.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Calgary backup Curtis McElhinney stopped Anton Stralman in the fourth round, and Jamie Lundmark followed with the shootout winner in the Flames' 4-3 comeback victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Making only his second start, McElhinney made 29 saves to push the Flames' road points streak to nine games. The Flames, playing the second game of a six-game trip, are 9-1-3 on the road.

Rick Nash and Marc Methot scored 1:03 apart late in the second period to give Columbus the lead. The Blue Jackets have lost a season-worst five in a row.

Olli Jokinen had a goal and assist, and Jarome Iginla had two assists for Calgary.

Jared Boll also scored, and Kristian Huselius added two assists for Columbus, returning home after a five-game trip.

Penguins 8, Rangers 3.

PITTSBURGH (AP) Sidney Crosby had his fourth career hat trick and added two assists for his second five-point game and the Pittsburgh Penguins won for the fourth time in five games, 8-3 over the New York Rangers.

Crosby fell a point short of his career high for points. He had six points with a goal and five assists Dec. 13, 2006, in an 8-4 win at Philadelphia.

Crosby scored once in the first and twice in the third period and added two-first period assists to help the Penguins rout the Rangers, winless in regulation at Mellon Arena in their past 13 tries.

Evgeni Malkin, Max Talbot, Mark Eaton, Pascal Dupuis and Tyler Kennedy also scored for Pittsburgh, which has won six of eight and remained tied with Washington atop the Eastern Conference standings with 36 points.

Defensemen Marc Staal, Matt Gilroy and Michal Rozsival scored for New York, which has lost four of six and is 6-12-1 since a 7-1 start.

Predators 4, Panthers 1.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) J.P. Dumont and David Legwand scored early in the third period, and Dan Ellis made 23 saves to help the Nashville Predators beat the Florida Panthers 4-1.

Tampa Bay rallied from two goals down to send it to overtime, and Wandell ended it with a sharp-angle shot from the edge of the right circle off Loui Eriksson's pass.

Stephane Robidas and Jere Lehtinen scored power-play goals during a 71-second span of the second period, and Brenden Morrow added a third-period power-play goal to give Dallas a 3-1 edge.

But Dallas couldn't hold the lead with less than 5 minutes left in regulation as the Lightning tied it on goals by Steve Stamkos and Jeff Halpern in a stretch of 47 seconds.

Wild 3, Avalanche 2, SO.

DENVER (AP) Mikko Koivu (MEE'-koh KOY'-voo) and Andrew Ebbett scored in the shootout, and Josh Harding stopped both of Colorado's shooters to help the Minnesota Wild beat the Avalanche 3-2 for a home-and-home sweep.

Colin McDonald, with his first NHL goal in his second game, and Dustin Penner scored 64 seconds apart early in the second period to pull the Oilers within two. But defenseman Alex Edler scored his first of the season on a power play 5 minutes later, and Mikael Samuelsson added another power-play goal midway through the third period as Vancouver went 4-for-5 with the man advantage.

Kings 2, Blackhawks 1, SO.

LOS ANGELES (AP) Anze Kopitar and Jack Johnson scored in the first two rounds of a shootout and Jonathan Quick stopped both Chicago attempts, leading the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the Blackhawks.

Kopitar faked Huet to his left before sliding the puck between his legs, then Johnson made an identical move before flipping the puck over Huet's glove. Quick stopped Jonathan Towes who scored in regulation and Patrick Kane at the other end.
