NY senator pressures NBA on Adidas jersey planNov 29 2009 7:42AM
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) A prominent U.S. senator is calling on the NBA leadership to terminate the league's contract with Adidas if the sports apparel maker moves production of players' official uniforms to Asia. New York Sen. Charles Schumer planned to take his message to National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern public on Sunday. He said he had spoken to Stern about Adidas' plan to outsource jersey production to Thailand. At stake are about 100 jobs at American Classic Outfitters' upstate New York factory. More than half the uniforms worn by NBA players are manufactured at the plant in Perry, N.Y., about 54 miles southwest of Buffalo. The NBA didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Adidas has said its plan is part of the company's strategy of consolidating its supply chain. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 11-29-09 0730CST |
