Coste Signs with MetsDec 1 2009 7:01PM
KXMBTV Bismarck That's because the Fargo native will be playing for his third team in the Senior Circuit as he has signed with the New York Mets. Coste started last season with Philadelphia, and ended it in Houston as the Phillies released him and the Astros signed him. The 36-year old catcher agreed to terms with the Mets on a contract that guarantees him a spot on the 40-man roster, though it isn't a given that he'll be on their opening day roster. Still, he's excited to join his one-time rival. "(Chris Coste:) They are one of the teams that do recognize that defensively, I am a pretty good catcher and recognize some of those stats and they have seen me throw out there best base stealers and they have seen me block the ball and seen me hit and I think walking into that clubhouse, the players would be excited because they have seen me play quite a bit and in that regard, it will make me comfortable as well. " Coste's career has included a World Championship, which he won with the Phillies in 2008. Last season was a down year for him, hitting just .224 with two homeruns. The signing is pending him passing a physical, which he'll take tomorrow.
