Myspace.com is a popular social networking site on the Internet for many young people around the world. But now over 29-thousand registered sex offenders just in the US, also have pages.

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has subpoenaed myspace.com to provide a list of profiles belonging to registered sex offenders from North Dakota. Ten sex offenders profiles were removed from myspace.com in the month of July. Last week, all registered sex offenders in North Dakota received a letter, notifying them that they must give all email addresses on their registration forms.

(Wayne Stenehjem, ND Attorney General) "In this way, we will be able to determine what registered sex offenders have profiles on the social networking web sites. And we will be able to track their activities if we need to do that through the work of the computer forensic science agents that we have up at BCI."


Stenehjem says the Bureau of Criminal Investigation will be watching what sex offenders are doing online.

(Wayne Stenehjem, ND Attorney General) "Failure to comply or providing false information on the registration form is a Class C Felony and is punishable by a minimum mandatory sentence of ninety days in jail all the way up to a maximum of five years in prison."


Other new sex offender laws now in effect include prohibiting sex offenders from entering school property and extending the period of time offenders will be required to register to 15 years for low risk offenders and 25 years for moderate risk offenders.
