Authorities say a Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate tribal police officer fired a single shot at a person who had fled a tribal housing area on Friday. The person died Friday night in an Aberdeen hospital. Names and other details were not released.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) The discovery of the emerald ash borer in western Wisconsin puts it closer to South Dakota and the state's plentiful ash trees. The insect has killed millions of the trees in nine states since it was first discovered in Michigan seven years ago.

MILBANK, S.D. (AP) Reports of a young black bear roaming the Milbank area in northeast South Dakota near the Minnesota border were confirmed with a photo of the animal. Scott and Jenny Pinkert used a night vision camera to capture an image of the bear in their yard.
