Associated Press Bismarck, N.D. (AP) A couple hundred people turned out at the state Capitol grounds in Bismarck for a Memorial Day ceremony. Gov. John Hoeven paid tribute to the slain soldiers of all wars, and also read aloud the names of soldiers with North Dakota ties who have been killed in the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. KULM, N.D. (AP) A Memorial Day ceremony is planned this afternoon at Whitestone Hill Battlefield State Historic Site near Kulm, in southeastern North Dakota. The site is where U.S. Cavalry troops under Brig. Gen. Alfred Sully battled with Sioux warriors on Sept. 3, 1863. The state Historical Society says it was the last major battle between soldiers and American Indians east of the Missouri River. Garrison, N.D. (AP) The Highway Patrol has identified a Washington state man who died in a crash in central North Dakota's McLean County. Authorities say 43-year-old Don Coleman of Kennewick was driving an SUV on a county road when it went in the ditch and overturned in a slough shortly after 1 a.m. yesterday. Minot, N.D. (AP) Some sandbags that went unused during flood-fighting efforts in Minot this spring have been turned into a Volleyball court. More than 2,000 sandbags were donated to Ramstad Middle School.
