Childress: No Favre decision deadline this week

Eds: APNewsNow.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Minnesota coach Brad Childress claims he never set a deadline of this week for Brett Favre to decide whether to play for the Vikings.

Childress called in to local sports radio station KFAN on his way to work on Wednesday morning. He wouldn't confirm if the team will continue to pursue Favre later this summer, but acknowledged he's eager to see what Favre has "left in that can" following recent reported surgery on his throwing arm.

Childress also said he's spoken with current quarterbacks Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels about the situation and that he's not concerned the Favre saga will distract them.

The Vikings have a handful of offseason practices scheduled over the next week, their last organized activities until training camp.
