Pa. inmate pleads no contest to child porn

Eds: APNewsNow.

MEDIA, Pa. (AP) A man convicted of strangling a company intern from North Dakota has pleaded no contest to charges of possessing child pornography on his computer when he was arrested.

Forty-four-year-old William Smithson is serving life in prison in the death of 23-year-old Jason Shephard of Cavalier, N.D.

Judge Barry Dozor accepted the no contest plea Friday and set sentencing for Sept. 11.

Defense attorney G. Guy Smith contends that other people had access to the computer, but says his client entered the plea to a charge of sexual abuse of children in order to conclude the case.

Shephard was studying sports marketing and took a semester off from Northern State University to work at Daktronics, a scoreboard manufacturer. His body was found at the home of Smithson, a Daktronics supervisor, in September 2006.

Posted by Eduardo on Jul 7 2009 6:40AM - I am a friend of Bill.

I know Bill Smithson had nothing to do with the files.

To know this you must know Bill, and you must know that Bill –in his recent past- associated with all sort of ‘weird’ types (I guess that happens when people do drugs).

I know for a fact that Bill's computer was as private as a computer at Kinkos or at any public library: anyone (ANYONE) could have downloaded that evil stuff.

Bill has always been an affable man, a graceful host…Stupidly, Bill never ‘restricted’ the use of anything in his house.

The horrific reality is that Bill had to plead 'no contest' because he has been under psychological torture by the corrupt system that convicted him without any material evidence. This was Bill's only way out of hardship ....for the moment.

Those who followed Jason’s murder case and witnessed the trial know that Judge Dozor and DA Thomas Lawrie used an impressionable and incompetent Jury (members of which were sleep at times!!!) to ‘cook’ Smithson’s conviction.

F Bruce Covington (aka, Bruce Chapman for the Gay/Drugs underworld) should have been at the least ‘a person of interest’ and the most important source of information in Jason’s murder trial.

Logically, Covington should have been investigated and subjected to the trial as Smithson was. This is because Covington or Smithson could have strangled Jason (not just Bill).

Covington lied to the police by telling them he was not in the house when the murder happened.

A few months later, Covington was ‘caught’ in the –How would we say it- “alleged” (?) drugging and rape of Manny: oddly smilar to Jason's case.

Instead investigating Covington or bringing him to testify, Thomas Lawrie and Judge Dozor gave outmost importance to the testimony of a person who had not been in the house at the time of the murder. A person whose testimony was not preserved on tape.

It seems there is a ‘tradition’ in Judge Dozor's Courthouse to send to jail anyone who deserves it, not according to Justice, but according to legal tricks.

Protecting Covington is just one of them.

Why am I writing this: Because Bill Smithson is innocent.
