Associated Press Bismarck, N.D. (AP) The Custer Military Trail Historic Archaeological District in western North Dakota has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The district spans more than 18,000 acres in Billings and Golden Valley counties where part of a military transportation corridor and five historic sites exist. All the sites are associated with the Northern Plains Indian War period from 1864 to 1876 and include Initial Rock, two military campsites, a military trail, and the Battle of the Badlands.
