Associated Press Hillsboro, N.D. (AP) A man set to go on trial in a fatal Traill County crash has a change-of-plea hearing Wednesday. Ryan Berggren, of Walcott, is charged with negligent homicide and reckless endangerment in the crash last July near Blanchard. A 77-year-old woman was killed after her SUV and a car struck the tires of a combine Berggren was hauling on a trailer without safety lights. Minot, N.D. (AP) A Minot-area businessman and attorney is suing the city, Ward County and a private landowner who owns property where a law enforcement gun range is located. Robert Hale says activities at the range create a dangerous, annoying and costly situation for nearby residents. He wants the range shut down. Devils Lake, N.D. (AP) Devils Lake Mayor Fred Bott says city officials hope to have a new police chief in place by the end of August. Fourteen people have applied to succeed longtime chief Bruce Kemmet, who retired last month. Bott says a committee could start reviewing applications this week. SHEYENNE, N.D. (AP) Authorities are investigating the apparent accidental shooting of a Texas boy at a home in Sheyenne. The 13-year-old is expected to recover after undergoing surgery in a Grand Forks hospital. The teen was shot in the side. Authorities say two teens were home alone Friday when one of them found a loaded handgun in a closet. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
