Mother pleads guilty to child neglectJul 31 2009 8:10AM
Associated Press Devils Lake, N.D. (AP) A St. Michael mother accused of leaving her 2-year-old son home alone has pleaded guilty to child neglect but will serve no jail time if she stays out of trouble. Twenty-one-year-old Demi Butts was given a two-year deferred sentence. She will spend the time on probation. Ramsey County authorities say they stopped Butts for driving under the influence on June 20 and learned she had left her 2-year-old son home alone. Court documents say an officer went to Butts' apartment after the traffic stop and found a child crying, screaming and pounding on the door. Butts also was charged with DUI. She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving. Information from: Grand Forks Herald, http://www.grandforksherald.com (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
