Voice of UND sidelinedAug 6 2009 8:11PM
Associated Press Grand Forks, N.D. (AP) A longtime voice of University of North Dakota athletics says he's not bitter at UND for leaving him on the sidelines, but he's upset at the way it was handled. Clear Channel Grand Forks and UND announced a three-year agreement Wednesday to continue their partnership in carrying Sioux athletics on a 13-station radio network from Warroad, Minn., to Plentywood, Mont. But Scott Swygman, who has been involved in broadcasting Sioux games for 32 years, no longer will be part of it. UND will buy the airtime from Clear Channel and sell advertisements for Sioux broadcasts. A change from earlier radio contracts gave UND the power to choose and pay the on-air talent to call Sioux games. Swygman said he was shocked when UND associate athletic director Sean Johnson told him, "You no longer work for us." Johnson said UND "had to make a decision for what was best for this particular situation."
