CANTON, Ohio (AP) The Pro Football Hall of Fame has inducted its Class of 2009 linebacker Derrick Thomas, defensive back Rod Woodson and defensive end Bruce Smith, longtime Dallas receiver Bob Hayes, guard Randall McDaniel and longtime 90-year-old Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson. On Sunday night, the NFL kicks off its preseason with Tennessee playing Buffalo.

NEW YORK (AP) CC Sabathia didn't allow a runner past second base while pitching into the eighth inning and the New York Yankees blanked the Boston Red Sox 5-0 for their sixth consecutive win.

Derek Jeter hit a two-run homer for the Yankees, who extended their AL East lead to a season-high five and a-half games and go for a four-game sweep of Boston Sunday night.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Jered Weaver improved to 12-and-3 and matched a career high with his second straight 11-strikeout performance in the L.A. Angels' 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.

Vladimir Guerrero and Erick Aybar (EYE'-bar) homered for the Angels, who moved four and a-half games ahead of Texas in the AL West.

NEW YORK (AP) David Ortiz says he never knowingly used steroids and that over-the-counter supplements and vitamins likely caused him to land on a list of alleged drug users circulated by the federal government. Major League Baseball and the players' union says just because a player's name was on the list didn't mean he used steroids.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) Ireland's Padraig Harrington fired a 3-under 67 and holds a three-shot lead over Tiger Woods entering Sunday's final round of the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Woods surged into contention with a 5-under 65.
