(AP) North Dakota's state school superintendent says public school enrollment has been reporting a decline of about 2,000 elementary and high school students each year, but this year he sees encouraging signs. Superintendent Wayne Sanstead says this year's total might not drop as much as in the past especially in the western part of the state, which has grown from energy development.

Grand Forks, N.D. (AP) The fire chief in Grand Forks says the city needs more firefighters and another fire station. Pete O'Neill told City Council members who are working on a new city budget that the upgrades are necessary if the department is to respond to fires in a timely manner. He says right now, the department has the resources to fight only one fire at a time.

(AP) Cass County authorities are looking for the driver who fled in his or her car after striking a bicyclist near Harwood. Twenty-eight-year-old Jennifer Walla of Fargo was flown from the scene by a MeritCare Medical Center ambulance Saturday night, and released from the hospital yesterday.

Ben Novak and Donnie Fieseler plan to remodel an exhibit room in the museum, which is housed in the former Alexander School and adjacent buildings. Novak says the renovation is "kind of a kick start" to get community support to redo the entire museum.
