Associated Press HELENA, Mont. (AP) U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg could be released from the hospital today after being injured in a boat crash. A spokesman for Rehberg says the congressman is expected to travel home to Billings in the next few days. Rehberg was one of five people aboard a boat on Flathead Lake when it hit the shore Thursday. ANACONDA, Mont. (AP) Commissioners from Anaconda-Deer Lodge and Granite counties have chosen Philipsburg businessman Jim Jenner to fill a legislative seat vacated by Anaconda Democrat Dan Villa. Villa resigned after he was selected as Gov. Brian Schweitzer's education policy adviser. BUTTE, Mont. (AP) The Butte area leads the state in traffic deaths so far this year. The Montana Highway Patrol says the Butte district has already recorded 32 fatalities, just two short of last year's total. The Billings area reported 30 deaths and the Missoula district has 20. HELENA, Mont. (AP) The Montana Supreme Court hears arguments Wednesday over physician-assisted suicide. The plaintiffs want the court to uphold a District Court ruling that says mentally sound, terminally ill Montanans can end their lives using doctor-prescribed medicine. The state appealed, saying physician-assisted suicide violates homicide laws. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 08-31-09 0230CDT |
