What a Field! Des Lacs Is One of the BestSep 18 2009 7:17PM
KXMCTV Minot Time for kings and queens to be crowned and time for Football teams to battle it out on the field for victory rights. For the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers though it's a special homecoming that will play out tonight on a special field that has been years in the making. VO CONTINUES Tonight DLB will host the Stanley Blue Jays on "Little Lambeau" as it is now nicknamed. The field in Des Lacs has been tranformed over the past few years from a once rough, uneven hard top to a plush green playing field that players, coaches and fans can be proud off. Head Football coach James Johnson says the transformation has cost more than two hundred thousand dollars... money that was raised by some very dedication sports boosters and players. (James Johnson, DLB Football Coach) "The project was called Laker Pride project, kids they say the best part of the day is 3:30 when they walk throught the doors here and they come out to practice out here on this playing surface. Our players have a lot of price in our field." VO CONTINUES Players say the new field not only looks better from the stands but is easier to play on because resurfacing work that has taken place. (John Sundsbak, Sr. DLB Football) "It's much more lush, maybe not harder to run through but you know you get tackled and you're not so much scraping up your arm on gravel and dirt. As you can tell it's really green, the old field by August it was pretty brown." (Caleb Kester, Sr. DLB Football) "It used to be you just didn't want to step in the holes and hurt yourself and now you know that you can just run freely and hard as you can and not get hurt and just go for that touchdown." A new irrigation system was included in the project and the new grandstands and press box were adding last summer.
