Lamoure police officer charged

LAMOURE, N.D. (AP) The lone police officer in the southeastern North Dakota town of LaMoure is facing sex crime charges.

Authorities say 22-year-old Kyle Mackey sent sexually explicit text messages to a 14-year-old girl and had sex with her. He resigned shortly before his arrest.

He is due in court on Oct. 8 on charges of gross sexual imposition, luring a minor through electronic means and solicitation of a minor.

LaMoure Mayor Craig Good says the city has hired another police officer who will be on the job in mid-November, after going through police academy training. The LaMoure County Sheriff's Department will help with city protection in the meantime.
