Disturbing patter...Closing Guantanamo...Terror plot evidence...Sep 26 2009 7:49AM
Associated Press Washington (AP) President Barack Obama says the discovery of a secret nuclear facility in Iran continues "continues a disturbing pattern" of evasion by the Islamic Republic. In his weekly radio and Internet address, he says the Tehran must open the site to U.N. nuclear inspectors or be held accountable by the international community. WASHINGTON (AP) Senior Obama administration officials are acknowledging that President Barack Obama may not be able to meet his goal of closing the Guantanamo Bay prison by January. The officials tell The Associated Press that the White House will step up efforts to meet the deadline, but the review of detainee files and questions about future trials could force it to slip. DENVER (AP) Prosecutors allege Najibullah Zazi (nah-jee-BOO'-lah ZAH'-zee) was planning an attack on commuter trains in New York City. But Zazi's attorney says they don't have key evidence to prove it. Arthur Folsom says FBI agents have found no explosives or the chemicals allegedly used to make them. PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad is condemning two suicide attacks today in northwestern Pakistan. The blasts killed 16 people and wounded about 150 others. The embassy says the attacks "highlight the vicious and inhuman nature" of Taliban militants. LOS ANGELES (AP) Conan O'Brien says the last thing he remembers was "enjoying the play with Mrs. Lincoln." The "Tonight Show" host was hit his head during a stunt yesterday, bringing production of last night's episode to a halt. O'Brien was examined at a hospital, but NBC has not commented on his condition or whether he's been released. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 09-26-09 0743CDT |
