(AP) A Rugby woman accused of abusing eight children at her day care has been found guilty of two counts of child abuse or neglect. The Northeast District Court jury on Saturday acquitted 48-year-old Lori Voeller of six other counts. Prosecutors accused Voeller of physically abusing eight children between the ages of 4 months and 5 years who were left in her care. Voeller's attorneys said she has been a day care provider for 20 years and has never been accused of abuse before. The trial began Tuesday. The jury deliberated five hours on Friday and almost three more on Saturday before reaching a verdict. A date for Voeller's sentencing has not been set. She faces up to 10 years in prison on each of the two counts. Information from: WDAZ-TV, http://wdaz.com (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 09-26-09 2007CDT |
