Kansas CITY, Mo. (AP) The Minnesota Twins could sweep a three-game series this afternoon in Kansas City. Last night, Denard Span had four hits and a career-high six RBIs, leading the Twins to an 11-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals for their 11th victory in 12 games.

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) Duane Bennett ran for a career-high three touchdowns, and Adam Weber threw for two more to lead Minnesota to a 35-24 victory over Northwestern yesterday. The Golden Gophers (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) led most of the way and took the league opener after losing in the final seconds to Northwestern (2-2, 0-1) the previous two years.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Timberwolves have promoted Fred Hoiberg to vice president of Basketball operations. He's been an assistant general manager for the past three seasons. The team says Hoiberg will oversee day-to-day operations and report to David Kahn, the president of basketball operations.
