Work starting on Crazy Horse dormitorySep 29 2009 5:22AM
Associated Press CRAZY HORSE, S.D. (AP) Work is under way on a Native American student living and learning center at Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills. The $2.5 million project includes classrooms and a 40-unit student residence hall for students who work at the attraction, which offers state accredited university classes on site and provides scholarships for American Indian students. The dormitory is scheduled to open next summer. The Crazy Horse project is intended to honor all American Indians. The mountain carving is in the likeness of the Oglala Lakota warrior who led the defeat of Lt. Col. George Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
