Minn. group asks for probe into ACORN voter workSep 30 2009 1:11PM
Associated Press ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) A conservative group and several gubernatorial candidates are asking Democratic Attorney General Lori Swanson to investigate voter registrations submitted by ACORN last year. Minnesota Majority president Jeff Davis says a felon convicted of registering illegally in Ramsey County claimed an ACORN canvasser helped her. He was joined at a news conference on Wednesday by a handful of GOP candidates and one Democrat. Minnesota ACORN official Kevin Whelan says he was unaware of the allegation. He says ACORN turns in all registrations it collects, while flagging those that look suspicious. A Swanson spokesman says the attorney general will look at Minnesota Majority's request to see whether it raises issues in her jurisdiction. ACORN is short for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 09-30-09 1305CDT |
