Rain slows sugarbeet harvestOct 6 2009 5:30PM
Associated Press Grand Forks, N.D. (AP) Wet weather has slowed the sugarbeet harvest in parts of the Red River Valley. Jerry Christenson is American Crystal Sugar's agronomy manager for the East Grand Forks-to-Crookston district in Minnesota. He says harvesting is at a standstill south of Highway 2, but conditions are better north of there. Christenson says the harvest normally takes about three weeks, but could last up to a month this year. Still, he says, rain delays during the harvest aren't that unusual. National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Barrett says there's a chance of more rain throughout the rest of the week.
