Flu Shuts Down SchoolOct 7 2009 7:16PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Too many sick kids to continue class on the Standing Rock Reservation... All the schools in Fort Yates have closed for the rest of the week. It's all because school absences were increasing. Last week 163 students were sick from school that number grew to 226 this week... That's out of 737 students in the elementary, middle and high schools in Fort Yates. Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Wayne Sanstead, says this is the only school in North Dakota that has closed down because of the flu. However he says schools in Richland and Grand Forks Counties are also seeing high absenteeism. Sanstead says schools will be expected to make up any sick days. Still school leaders say they aren't alarmed as the first cases of swine flu are confirmed... For more we send it over to Amber Schatz...
