ND education board to monitor sweeping school legislation...Oct 8 2009 5:15AM
Associated Press Bismarck, N.D. (AP) A North Dakota education board is planning to keep track of school reform measures approved by the Legislature and study some new proposals. Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple is chairman of the state Commission on Education Improvement. Today, the board is holding its first meeting since the Legislature adjourned last May. During the session, lawmakers approved the commission's sweeping education bill. Dalrymple says the panel will be following how the new legislation is implemented. He says it's also likely to come up with new recommendations for a closer working relationship between North Dakota's high schools and colleges. The commission includes lawmakers and school officials. It has grown from 13 members to 16. The Legislature added three new nonvoting members. The chancellor of North Dakota's university system, a Dickinson businessman and the president of the University of Mary in Bismarck are joining the board.
