Newsweek: Journalist detained in Iran now in UKOct 20 2009 2:14PM
Associated Press LONDON (AP) Newsweek says its reporter Maziar Bahari has been released from an Iranian prison and has joined his pregnant wife in the U.K. The magazine says Bahari has arrived in London in time to witness the birth of his first child. His wife is scheduled to deliver by cesarean section next Monday. Bahari had been imprisoned in Tehran's Evin prison since June 21 for opposing the regime but was released on bail Saturday. It was not immediately clear Tuesday when or under what circumstances he arrived in Britain. Bahari was born in Iran but later emigrated to Canada, where he attended university and obtained Canadian citizenship. Secretary of State Hilary CLinton and Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon had both appealed for his release. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
