Montana teen sentenced for stealing from grandpaOct 27 2009 3:31PM
Associated Press LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) A 19-year-old man who stole nearly $60,000 from his grandfather in Livingston to buy a boat, chrome exhaust pipes and other things has been ordered to repay the money. Gary L. Hillman pleaded guilty earlier to a felony charge of theft. At sentencing last week, he was ordered to pay $59,950 in restitution and fees, of which $54,500 goes to his grandfather. Court documents say the restitution amount was reduced after a go-cart, boat and trailer that Hillman purchased with stolen money were given to his grandfather. Hillman's overall sentence is deferred for six years, meaning if he pays back the money within six years and abides by the terms of his probation, the court may expunge his conviction. A 10-day jail term also was deferred for six years. Information from: Livingston Enterprise, http://www.livingstonenterprise.com (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
