Montana COMMITS 2 players commit to play Basketball at UM, Missoula, Mont. (AP) Two high school seniors have committed to playing basketball at the University of Montana beginning next fall.

Vaughn Autry of Gardena, Calif., and Bill Reader of Lake Oswego, Ore., have made verbal commitments to the Griz.

Autry, a 6-foot-2 point guard, averaged 16 points, six assists and three steals as a junior at Junipero Serra High, earning All-California Interscholastic and first-team all-area honors.

Reader, a 6-9 power forward, averaged 10 points and seven rebounds a game at Lake Oswego as a junior, earning second team All-Three Rivers league honors.

Autry had also been recruited by Utah State, Portland, Fresno State and Lamar College while Reader was also recruited by Portland State and Montana State.

Information from: Missoulian, http://www.missoulian.com LADY GRIZ EXHIBITION-SWOOPES Swoopes to play in exhibition against Lady Griz MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) WNBA, Olympic and NCAA basketball champion Sheryl Swoopes is scheduled to play in an exhibition game against the Montana Lady Griz next weekend.

UM and Idol Sports and Entertainment announced Thursday that Swoopes will play for Northwest Sports when the traveling team faces Montana at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Swoopes last played at UM's Dahlberg Arena in the West Regional of the 1993 NCAA tournament, posting 36 points, 10 rebounds and six steals in Texas Tech's 79-54 win over Colorado in the regional championship. Texas Tech went on to win the national title and Swoopes was named the 1993 Naismith player of the year.

She was a member of Olympic gold medal teams in 1996, 2000 and 2004 and led the Houston Comets to the WNBA's first four titles, starting in 1997. She was the WNBA MVP in 2000, 2002 and 2005.

FINBERG MEMORIAL UM Western to host Finberg Memorial tourney DILLON, Mont. (AP) The University of Montana Western is hosting its first annual Craig Finberg Memorial basketball tournament this weekend.

The tournament honors Montana Western alumni and former Bulldog assistant men's basketball coach Craig Finberg, who died of cancer on March 20 at the age of 51. Finberg also taught and coached at Beaverhead County High School in Dillon.

The four-team men's tournament features Western, Carroll College, Dickinson State and Multnomah University.

Friday's games have Carroll against Dickinson State at 5:30 p.m., followed by Western at Multnomah at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Carroll takes on Multnomah in the early game, followed by Western at Dickinson State.

WYOMING-WADDELL UW center Waddell has knee procedure LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) Wyoming sophomore center Adam Waddell is expected to miss two to three weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Coach Heath Schroyer says the surgery repaired cartilage damage.

Waddell started 24 of 33 games as a redshirt freshman last season. The Cody native averaged 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds a game. He also blocked 21 shots.

Waddell missed most of his freshman season with a stress fracture in his left foot and was granted a medical hardship by the NCAA.
