Missoula, Mont. (AP) A sheriff's deputy says a Good Samaritan who tried to help a seemingly stranded man had his car stolen at knifepoint just west of Missoula.

Bill Burt, a senior deputy with the Missoula County Sheriff's Department, says the victim stopped to help the man Thursday night around 8 p.m. near Petty Creek. Burt says the suspect pulled a knife, took the victim's 2003 Ford Focus and drove off along the frontage road toward Missoula.

The victim wasn't injured, but walked nearly an hour to Alberton, where he called police to report the incident.
