Minot considering railroad 'quiet zone'Oct 31 2009 1:46PM
Associated Press Minot, N.D. (AP) Minot is the latest North Dakota city to take a look at quieting train whistles. The city's Public Works and Safety Committee is recommending the City Council develop a proposal to assess the railroad crossings in Minot to see what changes might be needed. So-called quiet zones involve safety upgrades at street crossings that eliminate the need for trains to sound their horns to alert traffic. Other North Dakota cities, including Fargo, Jamestown and Bismarck, have quiet zones or are developing them. The Federal Railroad Administration has to give final approval for such projects.
