Bismarck, N.D. (AP) The chairman of North Dakota's higher education board says it appears more likely that the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname and logo will be changed.

Richie Smith is responding to a letter from Standing Rock Sioux tribal chairman Charles Murphy. Murphy says the nickname and logo issue isn't a big priority for his administration.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Minot attorney Todd Cresap has been named as North Dakota's newest district judge. Gov. John Hoeven appointed Cresap (CRESS'-up) today to a new job in the Northwest Judicial District in Minot. He starts Jan. 1. The district includes six counties in northwestern North Dakota.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma man accused of killing a North Dakota dentist has waived extradition. Michael Nakvinda appeared in Oklahoma County District Court today, saying he would not oppose his return to North Dakota. He's charged with killing dentist Philip Gattuso. Gattuso was found dead from a head injury last Monday at his Fargo condominium.

(AP) Cass County authorities have charged a man with manslaughter in the weekend death of a 2-month-old child, saying he got drunk, passed out and lay on top of the infant while baby-sitting. Arthur Berger also is charged with child abuse or neglect. Fargo police say the baby was not breathing when found about 2 a.m. Saturday at a Fargo home.
