North Dakota has a love/hate relationship with it’s all-Democrat congressional delegation, including Rep. Earl Pomeroy.  On one hand, certain powerful constituencies in North Dakota love that they bring home the bacon in the form of lots and lots of money for pork barrel projects here in the state.  That we’re selling away local control and state sovereignty with every dollar they bring in apparently doesn’t matter to them, but that’s a post for another time.

On the other hand, Pomeroy and Conrad and Dorgan are always sneaking off to vote with their leftist colleagues whenever they think North Dakotans aren’t looking.  When election time looms they usually pick an issue or two to get “conservative” on so they have something to talk about when they put on their flannel shirts and have pictures taken of themselves walking through wheat fields and standing next to tractors to prove now down-homey they are.  But the simple reality is that’s just so much political theater aimed at convincing their red state constituency that they’re something they’re not.

But lately it seems as though Earl Pomeroy isn’t even trying.  Back in August, when North Dakota and the entire nation was turning up at town halls to question their elected leaders about health care and give them a piece of their mind, Earl Pomeroy didn’t even bother to hold a single in-person town hall where he could meet with his constituents face-to-face.  Pomeroy did make noises, some of the time, about opposing government-run health care but ultimately when Nancy Pelosi said “jump” old Earl said “how high.”

Couple that with the sort of routine votes Pomeroy casts against the interests of his own constituency, such as this agriculture job killing bill he voted for just before his health care vote (the sort of thing you never hear about in the North Dakota media), and you begin to see why Earl Pomeroy simply cannot represent North Dakota any longer.

It’s time to vote this guy out.  Because as I already said, he isn’t even pretending any more.
