Talking health care...Three Mile Island...Death in Iraq...Nov 22 2009 3:53PM
Associated Press Washington (AP) Floor debate is not expected to start until after Thanksgiving, but Senate Democrats are already airing their differences over health care. Some moderate Democrats are even threatening to scuttle the bill if their demands aren't met. Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown says he doesn't think more liberal Democrats would vote against a watered down measure, but he tells CNN he doesn't want a few "Democratic senators dictating to the other 56." MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (AP) The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is sending investigators to the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. A small amount of radiation was detected inside a building there yesterday. About 150 employees were sent home, but officials say there is no public health risk. They are testing workers for radiation exposure. BAGHDAD (AP) An American soldier has been killed in action in Iraq today. The military says the soldier was from the Multi-National Division South, but it's not providing any other details. At least 4,364 U.S. military personnel have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. NEW ORLEANS (AP) A census of marine life finds that decaying matter and even sunken whale bones feed thousands of creatures living in the ocean's darkest depths. A team of international scientists has recorded 17,650 species living below 656 feet. That's beyond where sunlight can reach. The deep-sea findings are among the latest update to a 10-year census of the sea. LOS ANGELES (AP) "New Moon" has risen to the third best opening weekend ever. The second movie in the "Twilight" franchise based on the Stephanie Meyer novels earned nearly $141 million in its first three days. A Football drama, "The Blind Side," debuted at No. 2, earning $34.5 million. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 11-22-09 1543CST |
